Sunday Premier League Season 8 Division 1

  • Week 23: Division 1 ends with an 8 goal thriller!

The final match in the penultimate weekend of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 featured a mid-table clash between Forty4 FC and Intruderz FC.

With both sides sitting comfortably in the middle of the league table, one would be forgiven for thinking that they would be taking things lightly in the last match of the season. On the contrary, both teams went into the match with all guns blazing in the hope of ending the season on a high. They took turns to trade attacks on the other’s goal and both defences were tested throughout the match. It was to be Forty4 FC’s day as they scored half a dozen goals in response to Intruderz’s double strike and picked up another 3 points to consolidate their league position. Final score was Forty4 FC 6 – 2 Intruderz FC.

  • Week 22: APMFC are Champions of Division 1!

As the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 season reaches its climax, there was a single match played between Rangers United and APMFC.

Ang Mo Kio Secondary School provided the setting for the clash between mid-table Rangers and league leaders APMFC. While the hosts were looking to bounce back from their loss to Stellar Utd the previous weekend, APMFC were on the search for the 3 points that will effectively seal the league title for them. And it was no surprise that the visitors started the match like a house on fire. Aided by the outstanding form of Man-of-the-Match Farouq Farkhan, APMFC bombarded the Rangers goalmouth with numerous attempts as they seeked the elusive championship victory. And they were soon in the lead with a superb effort by Farouq who would go on to complete his hat-trick later in the game. Taufik Apit contributed another goal as the visitors ran riot and finished the match as 4-0 winners. “We lost the game to a very organised team who are playing very good football. It is fitting that they are the champions!” said the Rangers United team manager in a fitting tribute to the new league champions.

  • Week 21: Stellar clinch crucial away victory against Rangers!

There was only 1 match played over the weekend of Week 21 in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1.

The match played at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School featured Rangers United and Stellar Utd. It was a rematch of the tie played in Week 10 when Stellar edged out Rangers 4-2 at Bedok Green Secondary School. Having not being in league action since Week 16, Stellar were looking to put in a good performance to maintain their position at the summit of the league table. The hosts, Rangers meanwhile were coming into the game off the back of a disappointing draw with Forty4 FC the previous weekend. Stellar started the game on the front foot and peppered the Rangers goal with numerous attempts. It was only a matter of time before the visitors took the lead and gained control of the match. Rangers put up a spirited fight back and managed to score 3 goals through efforts from Mohammad Faizlam bin Fazlah (2) and Muhamad Syahmi. However Rangers added 4 more goals to their tally and ended up as deserving winners with a 5-3 score line. “The boys played well today however we were undone by 2 silly mistakes. We will learn from this” remarked a disappointed Rangers United team manager after the game.

  • Week 20: APMFC pick up another 3 points to top the league!

Division 1 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League rolled on in Week 20 as 2 matches were played over the weekend.

Rangers United took on Forty4 FC at Marsiling Secondary School in the early kick-off. Having picked up maximum points in their respective matches the previous weekend, both teams were eager to add to their points tally as they look to climb up further in the league table. The match started on a cagey note as both sides took a cautious approach. With chances coming at a premium, it was the visiting team who took the lead through Safian Yand. It looked to be Forty4 FC’s game until Zainal stepped up to equalize for Rangers in the later stages of the match. Both sides had to settle for a point each as it ended as a 1-1 draw. The team manager for the home team had only praise for his team’s fight back. “The guys worked very hard together and never gave up. And we were rewarded with the equalizer in the final 10 minutes of the match.”

Over at Anderson Secondary School, APMFC hosted Intruderz FC. APMFC, who are in 2nd place in the league table, are on a high after scoring a vital win against former champions Height Rovers the past weekend. Intruderz on the other hand were going into the match on the back of a loss to Rangers United. It did not take long for the home side to assume control of the game as Man-of-the-Match Farihin Farkhan slotted in the first of his two goals early in the match. Further goals from Aqi Ahmad Eunos, Taufik Apit and Farouq Farkhan put the result beyond doubt as APMFC triumphed over their opponents with the same score line as in their previous encounter back in Week 18. With Stellar Utd not playing this weekend, the result meant that APMFC go top of the Division 1 league table!

Week 18 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 saw action from 2 matches as the league season intensifies.

Intruderz FC welcomed the challenge of Forty4 FC at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School. Both teams come into the game on the back of recent losses in league and were looking to improve on their performances. The match was lively and both sides had their chances in front of goal. Over at Anderson Secondary School, former champions Height Rovers visited Rangers United looking to build on their fine performance from the previous weekend. The home side on the other hand were returning to league action after nearly a month away. Although they managed to score through efforts from Alwie Ilias and Mikhail, Rangers had no answer to Height Rovers’s superior attacking display. In the end, it was the away side who triumphed to claim all 3 points with a 7-2 victory.

  • Week 16: Stellar make it two wins on the trot!

Week 16 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 saw one match being played out as Stellar Utd hosted Forty4 FC at Sembawang Secondary School. The lack of footballing action was telling in the early parts of the game as Forty4 FC struggled to contain the onslaught from their opponents. Despite the efforts of Man-of-the-Match Asmaan ‘Mika’ who netted two fine goals, Forty4 fc were unable to salvage anything from the game as they went on to lose by the odd goal in 5. • Week 12: APMFC and Height Rovers continue their ascend in the league standings

After falling to their first defeat of the season the previous weekend, Intruderz FC were looking to rebound back in their next match in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division1. Their opponents however were no pushovers as APMFC were the previous season’s league runners-up. And the hosts became unstuck as Man-of-the-Match Aqi Ahmad Eunos struck a brilliant hat-trick to lead APMFC to a 5-2 away victory. Farouq Farkhan and Taufiq Apit were also on the scoresheet for the visitors as they continued their fine vein of form.

In another match played at Bedok Green Secondary School, Stellar Utd faced a tough encounter with defending X-League champions, Height Rovers. The match proved to be a goalfest as both sides went on the offensive in search of the victory. After suffering a set-back of conceding an early goal, the visitors rallied to reclaim the lead and never looked back. The final score was 4-7 in favor of Height Rovers and Stellar Utd will look to recover from the heavy defeat in their next league match.

Over at Anderson Secondary School, two goals from star player Syahnaim Suhaimi helped Rangers United register a 3-2 home victory at the expense of FC Rondo. “We played really good football today. Our passing and teamwork were vital in getting us the 3 points” shared an elated Rangers United team manager. • Week 11: Intruderz suffer first defeat of the season at the hands of defending Champions

Week 11 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 saw a number of interesting matches taking place over the weekend.

Naval Base Secondary was the venue as defending champions Height Rovers welcomed the visit of Intruderz FC. Coming off a draw the previous weekend against Forty4 FC, Height Rovers were looking to get back to winning ways against a side who have yet to be beaten this season. It proved to be an enthralling affair with both sides exchanging possession and creating multiple chances. In the end, the quality of Height Rovers shone through as they edged out their opponents 3-2 to pick up another win to climb up the league table.

Over at Peirce Secondary School, Forty4 FC were looking for 3 points of their own as they locked horns with the big winners of last week, APMFC. Having plundered 13 goals the previous weekend, APMFC were pretty confident of their chances against the visiting team. However the goal rush everyone was looking forward to did not materialise and it ended up being a very tense encounter for both sides. APMFC’s Aqi Ahmad Eunos was the star man of the match as he led his team to victory with two finely taken goals. Khair Rusydi netted a late consolation for Forty4 FC but APMFC held on to claim all 3 points.

  • Week 10: No shortage of goals in Week 10 of the league season!

Week 10 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 saw a full set of fixtures being played out around the island.

The first match saw perennial whipping boys Sisilaq FC face up to mighty APMFC. The match played at Bedok South Secondary School was only the fifth game that APMFC has been involved in so far this season. However they showed no lack of cohesiveness on the pitch as they rallied to trash Sisilaq by a big margin. The Farkhan Brothers from APMFC were once again the twin terrors that provided the ammunition to gun down the opponents. They accounted for 10 of their side’s goals on the day. It was another bad day in the office for Sisilaq FC and they were soundly beaten 2-13 by the former league runners-up.

Over at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, a Man-of-the-Match performance by Forty4 FC’s Khairul Azhar was not enough to secure maximum points for his team as they drew with Height Rovers 4-4. It was a riveting contest between the two sides and it proved to be an entertainer for the watching faithful. Forty4 FC’s goals from Khair Rusydi (2), Ridhuan “wankenet’ and Herduan ‘Pendek’ were not decisive enough for their team as the visitors equalised with 4 goals of their own and both teams had to be content with a point a piece.

The last match of the day was between Stellar Utd and Rangers United. After registering a big win the previous week, Stellar were looking for another 3 points against an inconsistent Rangers side. And it turned out to be a comfortable victory for the hosts as they defeated their opponents 4-2. Muhammad Firas was the standout player in the match but even his two goals were not sufficient as his team returned home empty-handed. A gracious Rangers United team manager had this to say after the match – “ We played a good game but our opponent was more experienced in contrast to some of my players who are still very young.”

In the only game played in Week 9 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1, Stellar United hosted Sisilaq FC at Bedok South Secondary School. After drawing their last 2 matches, Stellar was looking to claim all 3 points against their opponents who were on the receiving end of a thrashing at the hands of Height Rovers the previous weekend. And claim it they did, with conviction as they routed Sisilaq 8 goals to nil. The visitors had no answer to the hosts’ slick movements and off the ball running. • Week 8: Height Rovers record biggest win of the season so far!

The name Height Rovers is synonyms with success as they are the defending Division 1 and X Cup champions. And they showed their class on the field of play by annihilating their opponents 17 goals to 2 in Week 8 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 match played at Anderson Secondary School. On the receiving end of the trashing was Silsilaq FC who looked out of depth against Height Rovers. Mohammad Luqman was rightfully voted the Man-of-the-Match as he contributed 6 goals for his team. Mohammad Hamdan (5), Muhammad Ramdan (4) as well as solo efforts by Roy Roslan and Mohammed Kamarudin ensured the home side recorded the largest win of the season so far.

In the mid-day kick off, a red card to Rangers United goalkeeper Moustaffa Kamal gifted all 3 points to Forty4 FC. The match played at Anderson Secondary School, saw Moustaffa Kamal receive his marching orders as early as the 25th minute. It all went downhill after that and Forty4 FC took advantage of the numerical advantage to win 6-1. Muhamad Syahmi got the consolation for Rangers United while Nasruun ‘Unn’ and Huzaifah Zai featured among the scorers for Height Rovers.

In the day’s last match played at Naval Base Secondary School, Intruderz FC and Stellar Utd fought to a close 1-1 draw. Both sides had chances to win the match but they were let-down by a combination of stout defending and poor finishing. Having won their match last week, Intruderz FC was looking to add on to their points tally of the new league campaign.

  • Week 7: Intruderz FC score big win while former champions could only manage a draw

In the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 match played at Bedok Green Secondary School, the final result was a draw between two former Division 2 champions. Both teams went for the jugular right from the whistle and had equal chances to claim all 3 points. In the end the 2-2 draw was a fitting result for both teams who are looking to stake their claim for the league championship.

Over at Naval Base Secondary School, a Man-of-the-Match performance by Muhamad Syahmi was not enough to prevent a drubbing for Rangers United at the hands of Intruderz FC. Despite scoring early through strikes by Alagendran and Azman Aziz, the visitors defence soon capitulated after the break and eventually let in nine goals as the hosts won 9-2. • Week 2: Goal Bonanza Week

It was a goal fest in Week 2 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 1 as a whopping 26 goals were scored in the 3 matches played. In the 1st game played at Woodlands Secondary School, goals by Asman ‘Mika’ and Firdaus ‘Nan’ were not enough to prevent Forty4 FC from going down 2-5 to Stellar Utd.

Over at Unity Secondary School, 6 goals from Man-of-the Match Farouq Farkhan secured maximum points for APMFC in their match against league newcomers Rangers United. After his team’s 8-1 loss at the hands of last season’s runner up, Rangers United team manager remained optimistic.“My team lost to a very strong team today. As this is our first time competing in the X-League D1, we hope to gain experience from this and try to do better in our following games.”

The final game of the week saw FC Rondo trash Sisilaq FC 10 goals without reply away at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School. Led by 4-goal hero Kevin Tan, FC Rondo started the goal rout as early as the 4th minute and was never threatened by the home side. This was what their team manager had to say after the game. “We showed more willingness to win and the match ran smoothly for us. We hope we can maintain our consistency of winning every game.”
