It was the opening match of Sengkang West Inter-Zone League, graced by the presence of Guest of Honour Dr. Lam. Riverbower got off to a fast start and had a 1-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game. Poor defending from SKW Knights allowed Riverbower to double their lead soon after. Slowly clawing back to the game, SKW Knights were surprised to find themselves 3-0 down by half-time by a nice build-up play from Riverbowers. The exciting half was also concluded by a penalty miss from SKW Knights.
The game restarted in the second half and SKW shuffled their lineup, utilizing the fresh legs from the bench. An early header from a corner conceded by Riverbowers ramped up the momentum for SKW. However, a tussle between Yasar (7) and a Riverbower player was a highlight to miss as Yasar fell out of the game with an injured elbow.
SKW Knights had another chance from the penalty spot, but instead skyed the penalty. Not long after, SKW Knights's morning was made tougher as they were down to 10 men due to a tackle from the back.
Receiving a foul just outside the box, Azmi stepped up to take the free kick and converted beautifully from a wicked bounce off the ground. The goal and the reduction to 10 men sparked the SKW Knights to fight for another goal.
Amidst an exciting last 10 minutes to the game, with the game flowing from one end of the field to another, Kudos to Riverbower for hanging on to the game and bringing home the 3-2 win. We will like to wish speedy recovery to Yasar!
