Week 22: History is made!
Newton Heath took on Baragudas FC at North Vista Secondary School in Week 22 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1.
The hosts were looking to bounce back from their loss to El Sueno the previous weekend while Baragudas were still smarting from the defeat they suffered at the hands of Basah Loh Na. With both teams determined to avoid another setback in their pursuit of the 3 points, the match was an open affair with lots of chances for both sides. The match would eventually go the way of the former league champions as Newton Heath scored 4 goals to cancel out Baragudas’s 2 and finished the game as 4-2 winners.
The result means that both Newton Heath & El Sueno end the season tied on 32 points and on a goal difference of 22. For the first time ever in the history of the X-League, two teams will finish joint first Runners-Up.

Week 21: El Sueno edge out Newton Heath!
Week 21 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 saw a single match being played between young upstarts El Sueno and former league winners Newton Heath.
The match played at Fajar Secondary School kicked off with both teams going on the offensive and looking to claim all 3 points on offer. With plenty of goalmouth action, spectators were treated to a goal bonanza. Both sides took turns to breach the opponent’s net and score some amazing goals. In the end, it was to be El Sueno’s day as the host nicked a late winner to emerge 4-3 winners and inflict a loss onto the fomer X-League Champions.

Week 20: Basah Loh Na sit pretty atop league table with win
The league leaders were in action in Week 20 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 as they took on Baragudas FC at Regent Secondary School. After coming off a top-of-the-table clash with Newton Heath recently with a draw, Basah Loh were in no mood to drop more points. Their opponents, Baragudas were still smarting from their league loss the previous weekend and were hoping to arrest their worrying league form against the top team in the division. It did not take long for Basah Loh Na to exert their control on the game. Having created the better chances and being more clinical in front of goal, the home side took the lead and never looked back. They finished the match with 5 goals in response to Baragudas’s 2. The league leaders sit pretty atop the league table with another win.

Week 19: Newton Heath & Basah Loh Na cancel each other out in top of the table tie
Week 19 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 saw 2 matches taking place and it featured a top of the table clash.
Juying Secondary School provided the setting for the encounter between 1st place Basah Loh Na and 2nd place Newton Heath. Coming off a draw from their previous league match, Newton Heath were looking to do one better in this game to close the gap with their opponents. League leaders Basah Loh Na on the other hand were coming into the match after sitting out of the last few weeks of league action. It was perhaps not surprising that Newton Heath were faster off the blocks and controlled the initial parts of the game. However, Basah Loh Na’s quality were not to be outshone and they slowly grew into the match. Chances were few and far between as both sides did not give much away. In the end, both teams managed to score a goal a piece and went away with a point as the match finished 1-1.
Over at Regent Secondary School, Baragudas FC welcomed the challenge of El Sueno. With both teams not involved the previous weekend, they were raring to go in this league encounter. Back in Week 6, El Sueno completely dominated Baragudas and won with 4 clear goals. It was more of the same this time as well as El Sueno had the majority of possesion and created the better chances. Despite Baragudas netting twice in the game, it was to be El Sueno’s match as they scored 4 goals of their own and ended the game with all 3 points. Final score was Baragudas 2 – 4 El Sueno.

Week 18: Imagine Penguins and Newton Heath have to settle for a point a piece
There was only a single match played in Week 18 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 and it featured Imagine Penguins and Newton Heath FC.
After losing their recent home match against El Sueno, Imagine Penguins were looking to get back to winning ways in the league. Standing in their way were former champions Newton Heath who were back in action after a week’s break. The two sides last met in Week 11 where Newton Heath comfortably won with a 4-1 scoreline. This contest proved to be more evenly matched. Both teams took turns to create chances and wrestle the lead from the other. In the end, neither managed to find the decisive goal to settle the game and it ended as a 2-2 draw for both sides.

Week 17: El Sueno clinch easy victory over Imagine Penguins
Week 17 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 saw a single match being played and it was between Imagine Penguins and El Sueno.
The match was played at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School and it was a rematch of the tie played in Week 12. On that day El Sueno triumphed over their opponents with a 2-0 scoreline. In this encounter, El Sueno proved to be a handful for the hosts as well and they controlled the majority of play. Despite valiant fightbacks by Imagine Penguins, the visitors proved more lethal in front of goal and recorded a 4-2 away victory to claim all 3 points.

Week 16: Newton Heath return to action with a slim victory over El Sueno
It proved to be a less than busy weekend of football as only a single match was played in Week 16 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1.
The game featured former league champions Newton Heath and the young guns of El Sueno. After not featuring in the league for the past 4 weeks, Newton Heath were desperate to get up to speed with the rest of the chasing pack for the league championship. They were up against a resurgent El Sueno side who recently trashed El Gremio in the league the previous weekend. With both teams going all out for the win, the match was a spectacle for the spectators at Bedok Green Secondary School. Md Al Harith put in a Man-of-the-Match performance for Newton Heath as he led by example to nick the game in the hosts’ favour. Goals from Azrin aka Arin-Streetstyler, Alfian Yusof and Hykal Johari proved decisive as Newton Heath won with a 3-2 scoreline despite El Sueno’s fightback.

Week 15: Basah Loh Na extend their winning streak!
Week 15 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 saw two matches being contested.
First up, El Gremio hosted El Sueno at Bedok Green Secondary School. Goals are always guaranteed when these sides clash as evident from the 4-4 draw a couple of weeks back. For this reverse fixture, El Gremio were still smarting from an away loss the previous week to Basah Loh Na while El Sueno has been having an inconsistent season thus far. In a match where both teams were looking to garner maximum points, it was El Sueno who provided the cutting edge and took their chances in front of goal. Final score was El Gremio 2 – 7 El Sueno.
Over at Bedok South Secondary School, Basah Loh Na welcomed the challenge of Imagine Penguins. The hosts have been generally untested in the league thus far while Imagine Penguins were experiencing an uplift in fortunes as they have picked up maximum points in their last 2 league matches. Chances created were few and at a premium between the two competetive sides and it ended in favour of Basah Loh Na as they edged out Imagine Penguins by a 2-1 scoreline.

Week 14: Basah Loh Na claim easy victory over El Gremio
With the match between Newton Heath and Baragudas FC postponed to a later date, there was only a single game that took place in Week 14 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1.
The match, played at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School, featured Basah Loh Na and El Gremio FC. Basah Loh Na was back in league action after a break while El Gremio was coming off a high scoring draw the previous weekend. The two sides previously met in Week 5 and the result was a narrow away win for Basah Loh Na. This game however was very much one-sided with the hosts controlling most of the play. Basah Loh Na went on to convert their chances and finished the game to convincingly beat their opponents 7-3 and claim all 3 points.

Week 13: Imagine Penguins snap winless run to nick 3 precious points!
In Week 13 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1, CCS FC hosted Imagine Penguins at Sembawang Secondary School. Having lost twice in a row, the Penguins were looking to get back to winning ways against a CCS FC side that have been struggling for results themselves. It was a tight encounter as both sides went in search of a morale-boosting win. It ended up being Imagine Penguins’ day as they notched all 3 points as a result of their 2-1 away victory.
Over at Peirce Secondary School, El Sueno faced El Gremio FC. Both sides came into the match with contrasting fortunes. The home side were victorious in their previous league match while the visitors were unlucky to lose against Baragudas FC the preceding weekend. With both sides going for the jugular, it was no surprise that the game threatened to boil over as 3 reds cards were handed out during the game. While it seemed to favor El Gremio numerically, the home side did not back down and fought back to claim a gutsy draw. It ended El Sueno 4 – 4 El Gremio FC.

Week 12: No home comforts for El Gremio as Baragudas nick an away win!
3 matches kicked off simultaneously at 3pm on Week 12 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1. El Sueno entertained Imagine Penguins at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School while Basah Loh Na took on CCS FC at Sembawang Secondary School. Over at Naval Base Secondary School, Baragudas FC visited El Gremio FC.
Both El Sueno and Imagine Penguins were coming into their match on the back of a loss in their respective league matches the previous weekend. Both teams were trying to avoid a second success defeat and went for the jugular from the kick-off. In the end, wasteful chances in front of goal proved costly for Imagine Penguins as El Sueno struck 2 quick goals to claim all 3 points and register a 2-0 home win.
Over at Sembawang Secondary School, an assured performance by the home side enabled Basah Loh Na to defeat CCS FC by 3 goals to 1. The win extends Basah Loh Na’s winning streak to 8 matches and they are looking good as strong contenders for the league title. CCS FC on the other hand will be looking to bounce back after suffering 2 defeats in consecutive weeks.
The final match between El Gremio and Baragudas was an evenly contested affair. Both teams have not had much luck on the field of play and the match could have swung any team’s way. Ultimately it was to be Baragudas’s day as the visitors pipped El Gremio by the odd goal in 5 to record a vital away win. Final score: El Gremio 2 – Baragudas FC 2.

Week 11: El Gremio halt losing streak to register 2nd win of the season
The PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 kicked off its 11th weekend of football with a matchup between El Gremio FC and CCS FC. The match, played at Sembawang Secondary School, provided El Gremio the opportunity to arrest a wretched run of form against a CCS FC side who picked up maximum points the previous weekend. And the home supporters were not disappointed as goals from Mohammad Fitri, Muhd Aidil and Sarvaesh Kumar enabled El Gremio to edge out their opponents by the odd goal in 5. It was El Gremio’s second league win of the season and they managed to do it despite being a man down after Harris was shown a red card. CCS FC meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from the unlucky defeat.
Next up was Newton Heath entertaining the visit of Imagine Penguins at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School. The former league champions have only lost once this season and were looking to pick up an easy 3 points against the Penguins. However Newton Heath were penned back after conceding an early goal to the visitors and could not muster up an equalizer in the first 45 minutes. Led by Man-of-the-Match Md Al Harith, Newton came back strongly and struck back in the second half to eventually win the match 4-1. Newton’s Azrin aka Arin-StreetStyler was on the scoresheet again for a second consecutive week.
The final match of the weekend took place at Naval Base Secondary School and it saw the reverse fixture of the opening day match between Basah Loh Na and El Sueno. While the result on that day was a high-scoring 3-3 draw, both sides were hoping to do one better this time round. And the match certainly did not disappoint as both Basah Loh Na and El Sueno went on the offensive from the first whistle. In the end it was to be Basah Loh Na’s day as they picked up the vital 3 points by defeating the visitors with the scoreline of 7-2.

Week 10: Contrasting fortunes for returning Newton Heath & Imagine Penguins!
After a two week absence, former champions Newton Heath were back in action in the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 as they took on El Gremio FC. The match played at Woodgrove Secondary School, saw a tight encounter between 2 attacking teams. Having taken an early lead through Sarvaesh Kumar, Newton Heath suffered an onslaught by the home side as they netted 3 goals in reply. Newton’s Md Rasdiaz then scored two second half goals to bring his team on level terms. With less than a quarter of the match remaining, hotshot Azrin aka Arin-StreetStyler dealt the killer to El Gremio as he slotted in the winning goal. It finished El Gremio FC 3 – 4 Newton Heath .
In the earlier game played at Serangoon Secondary School, Imagine Penguins failed to capitalise on their recent good form as they went down to Basah Loh Na with the scoreline of 1-4. Critics would point to Imagine Penguins’ rustiness on the field of play as they have not been action for the past two weeks.

In the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 played over the weekend, CCS FC came up against El Gremio FC.
With the match played at Si Ling Secondary School, both teams were looking to improve on their inconsistent run of results in the league thus far. In the end, it was the hosts who were triumphant in getting the much desired 3 points. A Man-of-the-Match performance by El Gremio’s Muhd Aidil was not enough to secure the victory for his team. El Gremio scored through Aidil, Farid and Harith Rafiqi but had no answer to the firepower in front of goal from CCS FC.

As the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League rolls on to Week 8 of action, there was only one match played over the weekend.
At Woodlands Ring Secondary School, Baragudas FC was hoping to bounce back from defeat at the hands of Newton Heath as they took on Basah Loh Na. In a tight game between two combative teams, it was the visitors who seized the initiative and went on to record a valuable win against the home side. The final score was 1-2 in favor of Basah Loh Na and Baragudas have now lost two consecutive home matches.

Week 7: Dejavu for El Gremio as Newton Heath resumes winning ways
Azrin aka Arin-StreetStyler was the toast of Newton Heath FC as the former league champions claimed a hard fought victory against Baragudas FC. In the match played at Peirce Secondary School, Azrin struck a first half hat-trick to ensure Newton Heath get back to winning ways after stumbling against Basah Loh Na the previous week. The home side managed to score three goals but Idzhar aka Idz’s strike in the 40th minute proved to be the winning goal as Newton Heath held on to win 4-3.
Over at Naval Base Secondary School, it was a case of dejavu for El Gremio FC as they lost to the same opponent by the same scoreline in the space of 7 days. Having lost 3-0 at Peirce Secondary School the previous week, El Gremio went down to the same scoreline yet again to the visiting Imagine Penguins. Muhammad Irfan was the Man-of-the-Match as he netted twice for the Penguins before Nor Qamalrul added a late third. El Gremio’s cause was not helped by the early red card to Mohammad Fitri in the 27th minute.

Week 6: Basah Loh Na stun former champions!
Naval Base Secondary School provided the setting for a thrilling match between Basah Loh Na and former league champions Newton Heath in Week 6 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League. And it was the former who got the better of the favorites as they secured a famous 3-1 victory. A Man-of-the-Match performance by Newton’s Alfian Yusof was not enough to help his team as they fell to their first league defeat of the season.
Over at Peirce Secondary School, goals from Ahmad Zulfadhli, Ahmad Faiz and Man-of-the-Match Nor Qamalrul ensured Imagine Penguins claimed all 3 points in their match against El Gremio FC. El Gremio was looking to bounce back from their defeat the previous week but came up short against the more clinical Penguins side.
In another match played at Bedok Green Secondary School, El Sueno continued their fine vein of form by trouncing Baragudas FC 4-0. After netting 5 goals in the previous league match, El Sueno are racking up their healthy goal difference with another 4 goals without reply.

Week 5: No home comforts as away teams rake up the wins!
Week 5 of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 saw a unique occurrence as all the away teams pick up maximum points against their hosts.
El Sueno picked up 3 points at Naval Base Secondary School as they ran out 5-2 winners against CCS FC. El Sueno had more firepower in front of goal and were never threatened by their hosts. After picking up their first league win recently, CCS FC have now lost two games on the trot.
Imagine Penguins followed up their victory last week with another fine performance to defeat Baragudas FC 4-2 in a match played at Peirce Secondary School. Led by star performer Muhammad Shiddiq, the Penguins canceled out Baragudas’s goals with strikes coming from Ahmad Faiz, Mohammad Audi, Mohamad Nizman Alif and Muhammasd Irfan.
Over at Mayflower Secondary School, a Man-of-the-Match showing by Muhd Hairil was not enough to lead El Gremio to victory as they succumbed to a narrow defeat at the hands of Basah Loh Na. In a tight game with few clear cut chances, Basah Loh Na held on to win with a score of 3-2 to register their first win of the season.

Week 4: No stopping Newton Heath as Penguins and El Sueno pick up 1st wins of the season as well
Newton Heath made light work of El Gremio FC as they picked up another 3 points in the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League Division 1 match played at Peirce Secondary School. A brace each by Azrin aka Arin-StreetStyler and Norizwan Azlan as well as a goal by Idzhar aka Idz ensured an easy 5-1 win for the former league champions against El Gremio who were on high from after winning their opening fixture the previous week. Team Manager for Newton Heath said “Great win for ‘Newtons’ in their second game of the league. Not bad considering we almost had to start the match with only 7 players!”
Over at Naval Base Secondary School, Imagine Penguins won their first match of the new season by beating CCS FC 4-1. The Penguins had full control of the match and Mohamed Shagir capped a Man-of-the-Match performance with 2 goals.

Week 3: CCS FC and El Gremio register their 1st wins of the season
CCS FC claimed their first points of the new league season when they narrowly defeated Basah Loh Na 1-0 in the 3rd round of fixtures at Fuchun Secondary School. Basah Loh Na failed to make their chances count and are still looking to register their first league win of the new campaign after an opening day draw with El Sueno.
In the other match played at Regent Secondary School, El Gremio FC edged out Baragudas FC in a 7 goal thriller with 2 goals coming courtesy of Man-of-the-Match Sarvaesh Kumar. Baragudas FC was hoping to build on their opening day victory but were unable to match El Gremio and ended up losing 4-3.

Week 2: Newton Heath the standout performers on Week 2 of PSB Academy Saturday Premier League
Newton Heath picked up from where they left off in their previous season with the X-League by registering a convincing 4-0 win over CCS FC in their opening match of the PSB Academy Saturday Premier League at Woodgrove Secondary School. This is what their coach had to say with regards to the positive result – “We started off pretty well but the punch wasn’t there, few attempts at goal just brushed over the bar. A good debrief at the break allowed us to take note of the opponent's’ strength and how we had to raise our game. We played good short passes and pressured their goalmouth which resulted in our four goals within 25-minutes. Another positive note was that we kept a clean sheet in our opening game.”
Over at Regent Secondary School, a Man-of-the-Match performance by Imagine Penguins’ Mohammad Audi was not enough to stop them losing their opening fixture to Baragudas FC 1-3. Baragudas had too much in their locker against the Penguins side who netted their only goal of the game through Muhammad Irfan.
